Three years and growing

Published by Peter on

This week is the third anniversary of my first post under the Gray Bear brand. Happy three-years-in-business to me.

I’m on vacation this week, enjoying the sunny warmth of Mexico away from the rainy cold of Oregon. It was nice of the resort to celebrate my business anniversary (I’m assuming that’s what was happening) with a 6-minute fireworks display on the beach. Here’s 30 seconds of that, from our balcony:

Possibly the best 6-minute display I’ve ever seen, and it felt like it was just for us.

I mean, three years is worth celebrating.

Depending on which questionable statistics you want to believe, fewer than one out of five people who go into coaching stay with it more than two years. I am fully prepared to believe that statistic, based on what I’ve seen. But that’s not the point of this post.

I’m not just celebrating three years of survival. Turbulent times create both disruption and opportunity. That’s why I’m investing further in myself and doubling down on this calling.

A lot of people think AI is the future of coaching. In reality, AI is the future of low-stakes, mass-market, lowest-common-denominator coaching.

But as Meat Loaf said, there ain’t no Coupe de Ville hiding at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box.

So here I go. Three years, over 150 clients, more than 1,000 coaching sessions in the books. I’ve come so far, and I’m barely getting started.

Better start ordering those fireworks for 2028 now.
